By the time our kids are in high school and more self-sufficient, we have been working hard at a job, career, or business to make ends meet. We run a household and with all we juggle, still setting a good example for our kids. What we have been doing all along to earn a living, is a means to an end. It’s money that pays the bills and puts food on the table. But as the kids become more independent and our purpose shifts, we begin to reflect on our calling and renewed purpose and what’s next.

When my daughter headed off to college, I began to experience a shift in my interests as well as a questioning of my calling. I suspect you have or are, too.

As I work with women to discover their calling in life, faith, and business, I have found there are 5 overarching steps that we work through. I call them the “5 Moxie ‘P’s’ to Discovering What’s Next.”

PREPARE
‘Prepare’ is the first step and most important one. It’s the preparation step where we visit all the things that will hold you back from actually discovering and achieving your calling. It’s a journey, and like any journey, you must get ready. Preparation begins with prayer. Prayer about the “filters” in your life that will potentially sabotage you – filters are the things we collect during our life that can cloud our vision and hold us back. Filters such as excuses, lies you tell yourself, guilt, self-perception, to name a few.

In the Preparation step, you will address each of the obstacles you identify and plan how to get around or eliminate each one. It sets your mind on greater things.

PAST
Next, we look back to look ahead – we look at experience, activities, interests.

Your past creates a tapestry that creates a unique reflection of your life. Each thread is an element of who we are, the journey we’ve traveled, and the decisions we’ve made along the way. When you look at your tapestry, you most likely see a jumble of colored threads that make no sense. But be assured, God has woven those threads into a beautiful, but unfinished, tapestry.

We will flip that tapestry and see His perspective and be able to make sense of the design as you move ahead.

PASSION
The Passion is probably the most fun step, especially if you are a creative and a dreamer. You get to daydream and acknowledge what lights you up – this will usually be areas you feel the most Moxie, the most alive and fulfilled.

While passions can fade and shift, they do make an impact on our day-to-day direction. These passions will show up in every area of our lives in different ways. Most importantly is uncovering where your passions are rooted to unlock the secrets of your ‘what’s next’ and your calling.

PRIORITY
Priority is where your Moxie will kick in.
When you set out to reinvent and understand what your calling is and what to do next, if it’s important to you (and I imagine it is if you are still reading), it should be a priority.

Understandably, we ARE all busy. I challenge my clients to look at their schedule and activities. What is truly important and fulfilling for you, your talents and expertise, and truly benefitting others? Where in your busy day are you not using your time best? We are people pleasers by nature and take on things for reasons such as loyalty, habit, or thinking no one else will do it. In a sense, it’s setting your boundaries. If you make room in your life by shedding unnecessary activities or habits, it makes room for new!

Experiencing reinvention is realized only when we make it a priority.

PLAN
As we move through the other five ‘P’s,’ we come to creating a vision plan.

All the discovery you’ve done help you identify possibilities and clarity. Ideas for direction begin to emerge. Through continued prayer, the vision for your reinvention plan will emerge.

Working to achieve that vision is a journey. A Moxie journey! Your strength, perseverance, persistence, and confidence will assure you of achieving the vision journey to your reinvention and a fulfilled life. Are you ready?

The Next Step

Your vision and journey of reinvention of what’s next in your life, business, and faith, will lead to you a fulfilled life, but we shouldn’t go it alone!
