Passion and relentless drive have been poured into making your business or career successful…
The bar has been set higher and higher as goals are achieved.
The big dreams are fulfilled, and the business itself is solid, having weathered all types of shifts in the economy and personally.
Then, without warning, you suddenly find something is slipping.
You start to wonder “What is going on!!! Why don’t I feel motivated anymore?” “Where did my motivation and drive go?” “What is happening, and WHY?”
It’s a horrifying reality when the calling you have been driven to achieve to your crazy, high expectations, now feels more like an albatross you wish you could walk away from. Oh, when you are in the moment, you love what you do, but when you get up in the morning, you wonder why you wanted all this, what’s wrong with you, try thinking of how to get back the passion and drive, then gather enough of your waning interest to get through another day.
You run the gamut of scenarios – am I burned out? Am I bored? do I need to reinvent what or how I’m doing business? Do I need to reinvent ME?
You try all sorts of different things. Anything to not feel the way you do and to get back to where you had been, but nothing seems to make sense or help for any period of time.
Welcome to the middle. The bottom of the “U bend” of happiness. Midlife.
This was my story. As I reflect, I see my most obvious mid-life shifts began around age 48. My only child was graduating high school and heading off to bigger things at college, and I was excited for her, my husband and I instantly became empty-nesters, my moods and interests were shifting, and I began to look at my business with a different priority and perspective, and let’s not forget all the hormonal changes that come with being a woman!.
My path to what’s next meant getting back to basics, and understanding who I am, my values, my beliefs, and what I stood for; it took asking some tough questions.
Through the last eight years, I have had a journey of reigniting my creativity, reinventing myself and my business, re-exploring my purpose and calling, pivoting, and then repurposing what is most important to me. I’ve found new levels of my Moxie and confident in flexing it, discovered my voice, and am fearless in pursuing my calling and purpose because I am equipped with all the talents and experiences I need. I’m only just getting started and ready for anything!
It took me several years to understand what I was experiencing was normal, and now I’m intrigued by the research that’s been done. It’s brought a more profound understanding to not just my feelings and emotions over time, but how I came to make particular decisions and their subsequent results of what worked or didn’t and why. It also revealed how I could have made some with more confidence and knowledge.
Articles I’ve found insightful:
Being a Type-A “striver,” who suddenly feels as if someone has let the air out of your balloon, it’s frustrating and even horrifying to not feel like your previous, driven self.
But being that Type-A striver, go-getter is the Moxie style and your basis for this journey of a lifetime. On the other side of that “U” is a new level of Moxie, new freedom of possibilities to pursue any dream or goal you previously put aside, and confidence to decide what you choose to hang on to and what you let go. With your determined mindset, you will transform and emerge with a renewed definition of a very Moxie YOU, I promise.
My calling and passion as the Moxie Catalyst Coach are to guide bold, striving women like you, through that transformation to rediscover your strength, calling and purpose in life, business or faith and reset your course to achieve what’s next and design a bold, fulfilling ‘life 2.0’.
